갤러리신라 대구에서는 선을 겹겹이 쌓아 작업하고있는 작가 김연규의 신작 개인전 <겹>을 2023년 12월 8일부터 내년 1월 12일까지 개최합니다.
김연규(Kim Yeon Kyu, 1964~ )는 최근 자연을 형상화하였던 비정형 이미지의 언어를 넘어, 평면으로의 색면추상으로 변모한 신작을 중심으로 선보이고 있다. 그의 회화는 부드러운 색조의 톤이 대부분으로, 자세히 보면 그 색상은 하나의 색이 아닌, 여러 겹의 선이 겹겹이 쌓여있다.
그의 <겹> 시리즈 작업은 회화의 기본 구성요소인 선에서 행위가 시작된다. 그는 무수히 많은 선의 교차 반복 행위 속 변화의 순간을 찾는 과정과 물질성이 얽히게 되는 재료와의 시간과 공간을 경험하게 하고 비워지는 관계에 관심을 가지고 있다.
작가는 홍익대학교 미술대학 회화과와 동대학원, 뉴욕주립대학교 대학원(회화전공)을 졸업하였다. 현재 그는 덕성여자대학교 예술대학 서양화과 교수로 재직 중이며, 제6회 공간국제판화 Biennale 대상 수상(1990), 제11회 대한민국 미술대전 대상 수상(1992) 그리고 송은미술대상전 대상 수상(2001)을 하였고, 국립현대미술관 등 다수의 국·내외 미술관에 소장되어 있다.
이번 갤러리 신라 전시에서는 그의 신작 20여점이 선보일 예정입니다. 김연규의 신작 <겹> 발표에 많은 관심과 응원 바랍니다.

Gallery Shilla Daegu will hold a solo exhibition of new works by artist Kim Yeon Kyu, who works by layering lines, from December 8, 2023 to January 12, 2024.
Kim Yeon Kyu (1964- ) has recently moved beyond the language of atypical images that depicted nature, focusing on new works that have been transformed into flat color surface abstractions. His paintings are mostly softly tinted, and upon closer inspection, the color is not a single color, but several layers of lines.
He is interested in the process of finding the moment of change in the act of crossing and repeating countless lines, and in the relationship between materiality and time and space, where materiality becomes entangled and emptied.
The artist graduated from Hongik University College of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, and the Graduate School of the State University of New York (BFA). He is currently a professor of Western Painting at Deoksung Women's University, College of Fine Arts, and has won the Grand Prize at the 6th Space International Printmaking Biennale (1990), the Grand Prize at the 11th Korea Art Exhibition (1992), and the Grand Prize at the Song Eun Art Grand Exhibition (2001), and his works are held in many national and international museums, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
This exhibition at Gallery Silla will feature 20 of his new works. We look forward to your interest and support for Kim's new works.
