Hong Sun Hoan
회화, 조각, 설치와 미디어 사이를 오가며 작업하고 있는 홍순환의 개인전이 2012. 3. 9(금) - 3. 31(토)까지 갤러리 신라에서 개최된다. 대구에서 출생하고 성장한 작가는 중앙대에서 회화과를 졸업하고 뒤셀도르프의 쿤스트아카데미 미술대에서 조형예술학으로 석사과정을 마쳤다. 중앙대학교 예술대 서양화학과의 겸임교수로 재직하며 2009, 2010 태화강 국제설치미술제에서 예술감독을 맡았다.
작가 홍순환이 탐구하고 있는 주제는 중력(重力)이다. ‘중력의 구조’나 ‘중력의 힘’ 그리고 ‘중력의 이동’ 등으로 연구되어왔다. 중력은 우리의 삶 전반에 영향을 미친다. 단지 인간의 삶의 실천적 형식을 규정짓는 물리학적인 측면뿐만 아니라 삶에 관한 인식/수용적 태도 등과 같은 본질적인 것에도 깊이 관여한다. 우리가 현상과 물질에 관한 가치를 판단할 수 있는 것도 이런 시간과 공간이 얼개처럼 엮여있는 총체적 환경을 인식하면서 가능해진다. 그에게 있어서 중력은 그 총체적 환경을 조율하는 보이지 않는 힘의 작용이며 인류의 역사적인 범주에서 포괄적인 가치를 생산하고 규정지어 온 근거로써 작용한다. 중력과 연관된 이런 일련의 작업들은 인류의 역사에서 생성 소멸했던 사실들을 서사적으로 드러내는 것을 목표로 하는데, 수직적인 압력과 그 반작용인 수평적인 팽창을 기준으로 충돌, 정복, 도피, 생존, 기후 등에 의한 공간적인 이동에 관한 것이 그것이다.
이번 전시에서는 생성과 소멸이라는 순환의 체계인 ‘중력의 구조’와 일방적으로 편향된 힘의 원리가 갖는 모순과 부조리인 ‘중력의 힘’을 합친 개념을 중심으로 그의 대표작이 소개된다.

The solo exhibition of Hong Sun Hoan, who works between painting, sculpture, installation and media, will be held at Gallery Shilla from March 9 (Fri) to March 31 (Sat), 2012. Born and raised in Daegu, the artist graduated from the Department of Painting at Chung-Ang University and completed a master's degree in plastic arts at Kunst Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf. He served as an adjunct professor at the Department of Western Chemistry at the College of Arts, Chung-Ang University, and served as artistic director at the 2009 and 2010 Taehwagang International Installation Art Festival.
The subject Hong Sun Hoan is exploring is gravity. It has been studied as 'structure of gravity', 'force of gravity', and 'movement of gravity'. Gravity affects all aspects of our lives. It is deeply involved not only in the physical aspects that define the practical form of human life, but also in essential things such as perception/receptive attitude toward life. It is also possible to judge the value of phenomena and materials by recognizing the overall environment in which time and space are intertwined like a structure. For him, gravity is the action of an invisible force that coordinates the overall environment and serves as the basis for producing and defining comprehensive values in the historical category of mankind. This series of works related to gravity aims to narratively reveal facts that have been created and disappeared in the history of mankind. Based on vertical pressure and its reaction, horizontal expansion, space by collision, conquest, escape, survival, climate, etc. That's what it's all about moving.
In this exhibition, his representative works are introduced focusing on the concept of combining the 'structure of gravity', a cyclical system of creation and extinction, and the contradiction and absurdity of the principle of unilaterally biased power, 'the force of gravity'.
