Park Seo Bo
한국 현대미술의 대가 박서보 선생의 개인전이 9월 17일부터 10월 9일까지 갤러리신라에서 개최됩니다. 박서보 선생은 1950년대 아트 앵포르멜에 깊게 관여하면서 추상회화로 작업을 시작하였습니다. 1960년대 기하학적 추상, 그리고 1970년대 초부터 시작하여 최근까지의 <묘법> 연작을 통하여 그는 한국 현대미술의 독보적인 위치를 차지하고 있습니다.
박서보 선생은 1931년 경북 예천에서 출생하여 1954년 홍익대 미대를 졸업하고, 1956년 반국전운동의 리더로써 새로운 모더니즘적/ 형식주의적 태도인 아트 앵포르멜을 통하여 새로운 미술의 지평을 여는데 중추적인 역할을 하였습니다. 이러한 미술운동의 적극적인 활동으로 오늘날 그는 한국 현대미술의 주역이 되어 1991년 국립현대미술관에서 「박서보 회화40년」을 개최하였으며, L.A.에 소재한 에이스갤러리 (1997년,2000년)와 부산시립미술관(2010년) 전시 등 수많은 개인전과 Group 전을 가졌습니다. 또한, 최근 2012년에는 대구미술관에서 개인전을 개최하였습니다.
이번 갤러리신라에서의 전시는 전시장소에 맞추어서 제작한 신작 23점을 전시합니다. 작가의 작업은 빛을 통하여 새롭게 태어나고, 어떻게 바라보는가에 따라 새로운 작품으로 다가오며 그것을 담아내는 공간의 빛에 의해 또다른 작업으로 거듭나게 됩니다. 최근에도 하루에 14시간 이상을 작업에 바치는 박서보 선생은 모든 진정한 예술가가 그러하듯이 각종 사조와 시류에 편승하지 않는다는 원칙을 고수하며 자신이 지향하는 목표와 태도를 위하여 한결 같이 노력하는 작가입니다. 부디 오셔서 많은 격려와 관람 바랍니다.

Seo Bo Park(born 1931) occupies an important position in the last 60 years of the Korean contemporary art scene. The Art Informel movement started as Korean contemporary art in 1950, and to seek the identity of Korean art by creating an original Korean aesthetic, monochrome paintings appeared on a large scale in 1970. Park started painting as an abstract expressionist affiliated with Art Informel paintings, and passed through the time of geometrical abstractionism in 1950, through the ECRITURE series that started in 1970 and is still ongoing, and to new particular monochrome paintings that the artist established with new materials such as Korean hanji paper. Park’s work is still at the center of Korean contemporary art. Since 2000, still with the coherent formativeness, Park Seo Bo has changed his way to be more colorful, showing the constructive aesthetic of the composition of a picture with multiple color usage, escaping from the ascetic and neutral methodology that focused on monotone colors in the past. The recent works add more tension to the compositional picture by concentrating on the formativeness and spirituality that the artist has pondered and accumulated throughout the process of seeking “truth.”
